When you have wet carpet you will need to dry it out as quickly as possible. The penalty for taking too long is moldy carpet as well as moldy carpet padding. In order to dry the wet carpet you will probably need to have the carpet folded back, the padding replaced, the carpet dried then reinstalled.

We started this carpet repair several days before this picture was taken. The wet carpet that we saw when we showed up needed to be pulled back.
The carpet padding was saturated so we removed the carpet padding. Next we left several fans on the wet carpet for a couple of days so that the wet carpet could dry out.
It’s hard to see it from this picture but the carpet seam needed to be taken apart inside of this closet. Doing carpet repairs in a small area can be challenging because when we re-install the dry carpet it needs to be stretched. We have special tools for stretching carpet like the one shown below.
Stretching carpet that’s been soaked and then dried can be a challenge. The challenge is because the of the carpet wrinkles. The carpet gets stiff in the pulled back position and requires carpet stretching.

Near this door the carpet was pulled back. Now the carpet is so stiff and rippled that it will need to be stretched tight. Carpet repairs like this are important because if the carpet stretching isn’t done right, the carpet won’t look good and it won’t last very long either.
We’ve replaced the carpet padding, now all we need to do is to kick in the carpet and replace the furniture.
